Packaging Achiever Award winner 2018

The Gold Pack Awards ceremony took place last night at the Inanda Club in Sandton and included Packaging SA’s  prestigious award of Packaging Achiever of the year.

This year it was decided to rename the Award to the Gill Loubser Packaging Achiever Award in recognition of Gill Loubser’s outstanding and committed contribution to the packaging industry over many years.

There were three nominees for this years Gill Loubser Packaging Achiever Award. This prestigious award is an acknowledgement of the tremendous contribution made to the packaging industry.  The nominees were:

Tjaart Schutte 

Tjaart is the Technical Director of Nampak DivFood and has held this position since 2011.  He is very passionate about can-making and is considered an authority on can production both locally and internationally.

Charles Muller

Charles moved on as Executive Director from Packaging SA in February this year to Tufflex Plastic Products as Managing Director. During his tenure at Packaging SA amongst his many achievements he laid the foundation for the development of the paper and packaging IWMP.

Kishan Singh

Kishan is the Managing Director of Global Integrated Business Solutions as well as the CEO of Metpac.  He is passionate about training professionals in the packaging industry and is responsible for the design and development of Packaging Training programmes for the Institute of Packaging South Africa (IPSA). Kishan also serves on the board of the World Packaging Organisation.

Charles Muller was awarded the Packaging SA Gill Loubser Packaging Achiever Award for 2018. 

Charles is a qualified financial accountant with an IMM diploma in marketing management.  He spent 20 years in the polymer raw material industry working for a local subsidiary of the German chemical giant Hoechst AG where he was responsible for the sales & marketing activities of their locally produced polyolefins. Upon leaving Hoechst Charles established & ran a couple of small packaging distribution businesses until he was approached by Astrapak Limited, at the time South Africa’s largest focused plastic packaging company, where he headed up their group marketing – this role involved, inter-alia, new market development, communications & overall responsibility for the groups various sustainability initiatives.   Charles left Astrapak early in 2013 to establish his own plastics & packaging consultancy business.

At the same time Charles also accepted the role of Executive Director of Packaging SA (previously PACSA) and spent a significant part of the next 5 years growing the organisation & preparing the groundwork for what ultimately became known as the Federation of Plans (Paper & Packaging Industry Waste Management Plan).

In February 2018 Charles resigned from Packaging SA to manage Tufflex Plastic Products, an innovative plastics recycler operating out of Germiston in Gauteng.

Charles is passionate about the industry and still remains actively involved in the plastics & packaging space in South Africa.  He also continues to sit on a number of different industry executive committees & boards and has become a household name within our industry. He is the go to man for many when it comes to packaging matters.
