The Responsible Packaging Management Association of Southern Africa (RPMASA) is the leading Southern African organisation for all in the supply chain of Industrial and Retail chemicals and products, providing various services for Classification, Packaging, Labelling, safe transport and storage. It has links to various International Organisations through its participation in the UN Committee of Experts for transport of dangerous goods and the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS).
RPMASA offers training courses that demystify the confusion surrounding implementation of the GHS both in South Africa and Internationally. It is recommended to give a solid understanding to representatives from Industry and government, particularly Management, Supervisors from Operations – factory and logistics who have OHS Act responsibilities for their people, Technical, SHEQ, RISK, Marketing, HR & Communications.

The GHS is also coming fast locally – It falls under a number of different Regulations – the Dept. of Environmental Affairs, Waste Classification Regulations, came into effect in January 2015, requiring GHS classification of waste, with GHS compliant Safety Data Sheets! It is being incorporated into the Dept. Labour OHS Act Hazardous Chemical Substances Regulations, the Dept. Health, Hazardous Substances Act for Group 1 and 2 chemicals, as well as Dept. Agriculture for SDS and Labels.
